If this whole blog—instead of seeming like a way to shine a light on women striving to improve the world and have a good time doing it—strikes you as another self-indulgent or self-congratulatory Austin circle jerk: Then don’t read it. It’s clearly not for you.

DO YOU GET IT?

If you’re a woman who’s recently moved to Austin and you’re thinking, “I absolutely don’t get what this bitch is talking about—great, supportive Austin women?” First of all, don’t call me bitch; you don’t know me. And second, if so far you’ve received none of the warmth, hospitality and support that’s been described in this blog, you might want to take a look at your own behavior and imagine the effect you have on people around you.

It’s common for people who first move here to be disconcerted by the constant eye contact, the unbidden smiles and the unsolicited greetings that women—and Austinites in general—have for each other here. But just try it. You might like it. And you might come to understand the point of this blog.
